Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
Mission Capital’s Development Associate works closely with and under the supervision of the Associate Director of Development, and in partnership with the Development & Membership Manager and the Chief Development & Communications Officer to support the success of the development department. 

Modeling best practices in fund development and service excellence, the Development Associate provides administrative and project support for Mission Capital’s development and membership activities. Primary responsibilities include administration of donor- and member-related data entry, meeting and event logistics, and assisting with special projects related to sponsorship and grant proposals. As one of the organization’s primary Salesforce users, the Development Associate maintains the department’s data systems and plays a key role in promoting data management best practices across the organization and acts as a champion for our shared data system.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Development Associate works closely with the Associate Director of Development to support annual fundraising and membership goals with particular focus on the following areas:

DEPARTMENT ADMINISTRATION AND DATA MANGEMENT – 90%

  • Donor Stewardship, Tracking and Data Management
    • Manage gift tracking and acknowledgment system.
    • Work with Finance Manager to ensure accountability, accurate recording of all donor gifts, and invoicing and follow up as required.
    • Maintain donor and prospect information in Salesforce database. Manage content, quality and maintenance of data and generate reports.
    • Collaborate with communications team to maintain integration of email marketing system with Salesforce.
    • Coordinate an internal Salesforce user group to strengthen the organization’s data-driven culture, promote best practices, provide advisory support and troubleshoot collaboratively.
    • Monitor Salesforce trends and look for ways to add value to our data tracking abilities.
  • Membership Tracking and Data Management
    • Track new and renewed memberships in Salesforce.
    • Work with Finance Manager to ensure accountability, accurate recording of all memberships, and invoicing and follow up as required.
    • Maintain membership and prospect information in Salesforce and online member portal. Manage content, quality and maintenance of data and generate reports.

OTHER DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES – 10%

  • Assist Associate Director of Development and Chief Development & Communications Officer with grant and sponsorship prospect research, as well as proposal and report submission.
  • Assist Development & Membership Manager with member relations as needed, including information requests and online member portal assistance.
  • Collaborate with the communications team on donor- and member-related marketing.
  • Participate as a member of the Mission Capital team, attend staff meetings, participate at events and coordinate collaborative activities with other departments as needed.
  • Support team with other departmental priorities as assigned.

INDICATORS OF SUCCESS

  • Well-managed workload and demonstration of sector best practices.
  • Well-maintained donor and member data, and an incorporation of CRM industry best practices.
  • Peer feedback reflects that Development Associate is making a positive contribution to Mission Capital’s effectiveness and growth, and to the culture of the organization.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Knowledge of nonprofit sector with at least 1-2 years’ development and/or membership experience preferred, and an eagerness to learn and grow in the fund development field.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint) and 1-2 years’ experience with Salesforce (or demonstrated acumen for other CRMs).
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and ability to professionally represent Mission Capital. 
  • A respectful and collaborative approach to fostering relationships with diverse stakeholders, both internal and external.
  • Strong attention to detail with a positive, problem-solving approach to work. 
  • Proven ability to function effectively in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to provide exceptional service excellence in all interactions representing Mission Capital.
  • Team player who demonstrates Mission Capital’s Core Values of Collaboration, Service Excellence, Trust, Learning, Innovation and Connectedness.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
General office environment with low to moderate noise level. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but requires standing and walking for up to 15% of the time. Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available, and requires out-of-office work up to 15% of the time. Occasional work required outside of normal business hours. Access to a mobile phone (with email access) is required periodically. Personal transportation is required.
