Program Development Manager

A Glimmer of Hope
Job Description

Glimmer is an international nonprofit that is working to end the cycle of extreme poverty in rural Ethiopia. Glimmer’s projects create a network of resilience that holds up thriving communities and empowers women and girls as leaders.

We have an opening for a full-time program development manager based in Austin, Texas, who will serve as an expert in Glimmer’s integrated programs in rural Ethiopia. The position works closely with the communications and donor relations teams to support the development of proposals and reports to foundations, government agencies and individual donors. The ideal candidate is a strong project manager with the ability to think strategically, synthesize technical details and communicate effectively across Glimmer’s Austin and Ethiopia offices. We are considering candidates with five to 10 years of relevant experience.

  • Programs Expertise & Strategy: The program development manager will become an expert in the ins and outs of Glimmer’s programs, including the intended short- and long-term outcomes of our integrated programs and the projects and activities within each program that will advance progress toward those outcomes. The program development manager will understand the progress and status of each program, provide updates to the communications and donor relations teams on specific projects, and fully understand overarching implementation strategies and evaluation plans. The ability to dive in and understand the best practices in international development and trends in Ethiopia will be necessary to be successful in this position.
  • Project Management: This role will require development and management of project timelines and work plans, primarily for foundation and government accounts. This role will also require working closely with and tracking deadlines for Glimmer’s Ethiopia staff in order to collect key information and data.
  • Content Review and Development: The program development manager gathers and synthesizes programs information and data to meet Glimmer’s reporting and fundraising objectives and to draft content for proposals and reports to key donors. This position is also responsible for providing an expert eye in reviewing and editing content and materials created by communications and donor relations staff to ensure alignment with program details and data. Organized and clear writing ability is required.
  • Research: To inform our fundraising and program strategies, this position will conduct and oversee research projects as needed.

This position will also provide the opportunity to work on other special initiatives and projects with the communications team in support of our fundraising objectives; and potentially requires travel once or twice a year to Ethiopia.

  • Humanitarian. Being part of Glimmer means being part of something bigger; something that creates change in the world.
  • Comfortable with technology. Must be proficient in all Microsoft Office products, including strong proficiency in Excel. Experience with any of the following is a plus: Basecamp, Asana or other project management software; Dropbox; Fluxx; mapping software.
  • Innovative. We expect curiosity and creative thinking from everyone here. You take the initiative, think outside the box and find real-time solutions to issues or to improve existing methods.
  • Self-motivated. You are extremely organized, and people can count on you to meet deadlines while keeping calm.
  • Exposure to the people and places of Ethiopia, by being a part of the life-changing work that we do.
  • A committed and dedicated team that works hard but also takes time to recharge.
  • 4 weeks of paid time off.
  • Retirement plan matching up to 3% of your salary.
  • Health, dental, vision, disability and life insurance.
  • Medical and Dependent Care FSA available.
  • Fun office environment with several annual, offsite teambuilding activities, bi-weekly lunches, and coffee-loving and health-conscious coworkers.
