Job Description
The Senior Controller is responsible for all financial matters of Communities In Schools of Central Texas and works in conjunction with the Chief Operations Officer (COO) to develop and implement financial strategies across the organization. The Senior Controller, with the COO, serves as the staff liaison to the Finance and Audit Committee of the Board of Directors.

Responsibilities include

 
  • Managing the financial operations of a $10 million budget with functional responsibility over accounting activities including accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, payroll, grants administration, and audits;
  • Ensuring the integrity and accuracy of the financial information of the organization;
  • Ensuring the organization has the systems and procedures in place to support effective program implementation, receive audits with an unqualified opinion, and funder monitoring with no disallowed costs or chargebacks;
  • Working closely with program leaders to explore how the finance function can support program operations; and,
  • Partnering with leadership staff including the Chief Human Resources Officer and Director of Information Technology to facilitate the appropriate integration of the finance, HR, and IT functions.
 
 Experience, education, and executive skill requirements
 
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business or finance
  • Master’s degree or CPA is strongly preferred
  • At least 10 years of overall accounting and finance experience, preferably in a nonprofit organization
  • Experience with creating financial statements
  • Significant experience in nonprofit accounting, including fund and grant accounting, compliance and reporting
  • Significant experience managing and reporting on state and federal grants
  • Experience working with information technology staff to manage finance and accounting software applications
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, team management and interpersonal skills
  • Experience supervising accounting department staff
  • Excellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills, plus excellent organization skills
  • Ability to adapt to a continually evolving environment and thrive in an autonomous and deadline-oriented position
  • Experience in a senior financial management role, partnering with executive staff, resulting in the development and implementation of policies and procedures
