Creative Action uses the arts to activate the academic, social, and emotional development of young people.  We believe that when youth develop their creativity, compassion, confidence and critical thinking skills, and build meaningful connections with peers and positive role-models, they become successful adults who contribute to their communities and thrive in their careers and relationships. We serve more than 20,000 young people every year, and are the largest arts education organization in Central Texas. We are a dynamic group of hardworking artists, educators and community leaders who are committed to leveraging social change through our programs. Our team includes more than 40 full-time staff and 70 part-time employees.

Creative Action is seeking an entrepreneurial, innovative, and passionate Director of Finance and Operations with an interest in joining our team.  This position is ideal for a motivated individual who aligns with our values and mission and is interested in rolling up their sleeves to help us build out systems and strategies to manage our growth. We week someone who is fun to work with, loves solving problems, works well with a team and knows how to manage collaborative projects.

Experience:  5-10 years of increasingly responsible professional accounting experience, including 3 years minimum experience at a non-profit; corporate or private foundation; education or arts institution.  Individuals who do not have experience in these sectors need not apply.

  • Partner with Executive Director to ensure that operating processes are effective and tailored to support the organization's need
  • Take on a high level leadership role and help the organization get stronger through excellent administrative systems
  • Implement polices & procedures in line with the organizations core values (Dream Big, Stand Up, Have Fun, Strive for Excellence and Create Community) and mission
  • Prepare and maintain an organizational budget and variance analysis; and reporting for both internal and external requirements
  • Perform routine accounting tasks which includes billing, payroll, grant administration, and cash management
  • Perform all general ledger accounting responsibilities to ensure financial records are maintained in accordance with GAAP
  • Manage banking, audit and tax responsibilities, including third party relationships
  • Manage administrative staff including HR, bookkeeping and office management
Other Skills:
  • High level of proficiency in Quick-books, Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent organizational/project management skills with focus on managing details
  • Excellent listening and communication skills-both written and oral
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities and take an entrepreneurial approach to problem solving
  • Maintain and demonstrate high ethical standards
  • Maintain and follow best practices
  • Enjoy working with others
  • Have a can-do, positive attitude
