We are seeking a team member to join our dynamic and growing organization with a passion for helping others and a desire to make an impact on children's drowning prevention.  The ideal candidate has excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and is self motivated to oversee daily operations as well as support both the Program Director and Executive Director in their duties. This is a newly created and busy position that will manage critical administrative tasks as well as provide program support as needed.  Our new team member must possess strong written and verbal communication skills, be an excellent writer, and have a flexible, can-do attitude to work well with a team and/or independently.  Proficiency with basic office technology, including Microsoft Office, e-mail and the Internet is essential, and the ideal candidate will also have solid experience and proficiency in graphic design, database management, website maintenance, and volunteer management.  Candidates must demonstrate professionalism and initiative, effectively prioritize and multi-task duties with a consistent attention to detail and pride in producing a high-quality work product.  The work schedule is flexible, with some weekend and evening hours required.  There will be potential opportunities for growth and development in this position for the right candidate as our small organization builds upon recent success and continues to grow.


Overview of Position Responsibilities

  • General support of all Colin’s Hope programs (Preschool, Water Safety Card, Community Ambassadors)

  • Daily administrative tasks (scheduling, organizing and communications)

  • Basic accounting tasks (depositing checks and entering financial information into a database)

  • Volunteer management (recruitment, screening and placement)

  • Database management of our donor and volunteer databases

  • Water Safety Card distribution (processing online orders and completing mailing and/or local delivery)

  • Responding to online/web requests for volunteer opportunities, speaking engagements and presentations

  • Supporting Colin’s Hope events, including fundraisers, swims, and a Kid’s Triathlon (logistics, pre- and post- event tasks, event-day support, and participant surveys)

  • Supporting external community events (scheduling, preparing tabling materials, making presentations as needed)

  • Recruiting and supporting Colin’s Hope network of trained volunteers through the Community Ambassadors Program

  • Working with the Executive Director and Program Director to refresh and edit website content, maintain social media sites, and send out E-Newsletters

  • Developing and sending out strategic thank you correspondence to sponsors following events and to all donors on a regular basis

  • Maintaining an up-to-date media list, organizing press coverage files and following up with media contacts as directed

  • Assisting in the production of brochures, grant applications, and other print or electronic media

  • Working alongside the Executive Director, Program Director and Board to meet the goals of the strategic plan

  • Performing a variety of marginal duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed by the Executive Director or Program Director


Education, Experience, and Training:

    Bachelor's degree from a college or university preferred

●    Previous work or intense volunteer work in the non-profit field required

●    Experience recruiting, managing, training and supporting multiple volunteers

●    Previous experience in database (CRM) management of particular importance


Knowledge and Skills:

●    Knowledge of water safety and drowning prevention preferred but not required

●    Volunteer management skills, including effective recruitment, supervision and delegation

●    Organizational and project management skills, including setting priorities, taking initiative, and meeting deadlines

●    Excellent written and verbal communication skills

●    Knowledge of the following platforms a plus: Neon CRM database, MailChimp, Survey Monkey, Volunteer Spot (

●     Demonstrated good judgment and discretion

●     Flexible work style to include working independently, cooperatively with other staff and volunteers, or under specific direction as circumstances warrant

●     Ability to represent Colin’s Hope in a professional manner under a variety of conditions



Colin's Hope is a local water safety and drowning prevention organization. We were formed in 2008 after 4 year old, Colin Holst fatally drowned in a public lifeguarded pool in South Austin. Colin's parents learned that drowning is the NUMBER 1 cause of accidental death for children under 5 and a leading cause for ages 1-14, yet drowning is preventable. Colin's Hope has quickly become the trusted water safety resource in Texas, across the nation and is recognized as a global leader in drowning prevention. We are a partner in the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Pool Safely campaign and serve in leadership roles with: the Central Texas Water Safety Coalition, Safe Kids Austin and are founding members of the National Families United to Prevent Drowning collective. Primary programs include: distribution of water safety educational materials to families statewide and beyond, preschool swim safety programs for 4 year olds, and many community events throughout the year. Colin’s Hope also hosts a Kids Triathlon and the Got2Swim 10K swim each year to raise funds and awareness for drowning prevention. Colin’s Hope has a small staff, a dedicated Board of Directors and a mighty team of volunteers and community ambassadors.
