ABOUT HILL COUNTRY CONSERVANCY
Hill Country Conservancy (HCC) is an established non-profit that is seeking a fundraising professional to lead a sustainable fund development effort and help plan for the future. HCC was formed in 1999 and is the only professional conservation organization working every day to preserve space in the Barton Springs aquifer region. HCC marshals public and private resources to preserve the natural areas and scenic vistas, aquifers and springs, rivers and streams, working farms and ranches, and the rural heritage of the Central Texas Hill Country for people to enjoy and cherish for generations to come.
 
ABOUT THE DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR
The Development Director at Hill Country Conservancy is responsible for leading and managing the fund development program, raising funds for HCC’s operations, land conservation projects, and an upcoming capital initiative to construct the second phase of the Violet Crown Trail. The Development Director reports to the Executive Director and is a key leader in the organization.
 
KEY ATTRIBUTES
Hill Country Conservancy is looking for a goal-oriented person with strong relationship building and interpersonal skills. The ability to use innovative, creative and strategic thinking is essential to analyze, plan and implement strategies. We seek a Development Director who can multi-task and is detail oriented.  Most of all, the candidate will have a passion for our mission and strive to enhance our work in the community.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of nonprofit fundraising experience required. Capital campaign experience preferred.
  • Proven experience managing an integrated fundraising program with a reputation for quality and excellence.
  • Face to face solicitation experience; Successful track record of cultivating relationships and soliciting gifts.
  • Record of measurable results in organizing and implementing the following: major gifts, annual gifts, grant writing, corporate and foundation giving, and special events.
  • Experience with public funding and public private partnerships.
  • Financial acumen and experience working with finance committees and/or finance staff.
  • Excellent written and oral communication.
  • Initiative, research and organizational skills.
  • Interest and enthusiasm for working with people and advancing the mission of HCC.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Serve on the organization’s executive team providing leadership and management as needed.
  • Develop and implement a multi-year fund development plan that includes annual plans for maximizing philanthropic support from individuals, foundations and corporations.
  • Support strategy, scheduling, logistics and follow up of visits for the Executive Director and volunteers as appropriate.
  • Secure donations via major gifts, , annual appeals, events (Hill Country Nights), foundation and corporate grants, planned giving, online giving and social media.
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major gifts, focusing primarily on individuals. Maintain an active portfolio of prospects and monitor progress using the gifts management cycle.
  • Write grant proposals and reports to corporate, foundation and government funders.
  • Lead capital fundraising efforts, including planning for the second phase of the Violet Crown Trail.
  • Serve as a primary contact for Board members and support the following Board committees: Development, Finance, and Capital Campaign.
  • Supervise and partner with the Manager of Events and Communications and Manager for Marketing and Development to implement and develop strategies for media, online communications and donor engagement.   
  • Direct production of marketing materials such as newsletters, brochures, annual report, and other fundraising materials.
  • Oversee the maintenance of the donor database and donor acknowledgments. 
  • Design and implement an annual stewardship plan.
  • Collaborate with Executive Director and others on strategies to secure public funding.
